In terms of optical performance the Canon EF 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM is about in line with other consumer grade tele zoom lenses. The resolution figures are excellent and 100mm but unsurprisingly there's a penalty at longer focal length specifically at 300mm @ f/5.6. At 200mm and more so at 300mm you should stop down a little to lift the resolution and contrast level. Lees Meer Translate to Nederlands

The Canon 100-300 mm could be a good alternative for the very popular Sigma 70-300 mm APO DG Macro because of its good quality and price. Both lenses are similar as far as resolution, chromatic aberration, distortion, coma and working in bright light are concerned. I have only had this lens for a few days and I compare it with Canon's 70-200mm f4L which I have had for a couple years. For the price, this is a great lens, especially if you can really use the 200-300mm range. I however have little need for that much zoom. The large f-stop at the long end is definitely something to take into account because it makes this lens impractical in low-light situations (think night sport games), especially when you realize that you need 1/300s... Ambitionierte Amateurfotografen können sich mit diesem Objektiv den Traum von langer Brennweite bei guter Qualität und angemessenem Preis erfüllen. Das Objektiv ist gut verarbeitet (m. E. besser als viele Drittanbieterobjektive), recht lichtstark (maximal 1:4,5)und mit dem USM-Antrieb extrem schnell fokussiert. When I bought my first Canon SLR in 1998, the Elan IIe, I purchased the 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 USM, this 100-300, and a 50/1.8 prime. I took this kit around Europe, and the results I got from the 100-300 were poor, to say the least. I bought it to add range, but found that it only had usuable image quality at the 100mm range. Over about 150mm, I found the lens to have unusable lack of sharpness, poor contrast and terrible CA. Lees Meer Translate to Nederlands

I bought this lens in replacement of my old zoom telephoto lens and I can only say I am very satisfied. I get clear pictures, the autofocus is very fast and quiet. Lees Meer Translate to Nederlands

This lens still surprises me. Sometimes it is very sharp, but sometimes I am not satisfied with the images it produces. Good for trekking, when weight is an issue. But remember fast shutterspeed, tripod or enough light. Lees Meer Translate to Nederlands
