The Canon 100mm has Canon’s typically reliable and tough build quality, and – because it’s also suitable for full-frame cameras – is fairly heavy, too. The optical train is made up of ten elements in nine groups, while the minimum aperture of f/32 allows plenty of depth of field. The Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM L IS macro has a comparatively easy play in the APS-C arena. The center to corner resolution is very high up to f/11 and even f/16 is a perfectly usable setting here. Typical for macro lenses distortions are a non-issue. Vignetting is only a slight problem at f/2.8. Lateral CAs are well controlled although potentially (just) visible at the borders. If you do close-up work, and you're looking for a good overall 2nd lens to go with that new camera, the EF 100mm f/2,8 Macro makes an excellent choice. Ideally coupled with a full-frame sensor film or digital camera, excellent results can also be achieved with this lens when combined with digital SLRs with smaller than full-frame sensors. I just bought this lense for casual use and I am glad. Using on a rebel xti and it's easy to get great looking pictures. I was looking at other lenses that cost twice as much as this, so it's a welcome hit to the pocket. The weight is more than I expected, but not too much. I can't wait to go use it some more. I find the lens works well even in cold weather and produces a sharp clean image. It give a greater stand off distance than the 50mm with as good results. I am currently using a 10D and have found no issues, works well with the existing flash. Lees Meer Translate to Nederlands

Uitstekende lens, mooi kleurweergave. Verreist (= beter!) bij gebruik een statief en liefst een draadontspanner daar trillingen funest zijn bij macrofotografie! Buiten dat, erg mooi lens met bijzondere kwaliteiten. Lees Meer

- had to use manual focus to get sharp images,
