A Canon eléggé belelendült az APS-C-re tervezett objektívek készítésébe, mi sem bizonyítja ezt jobban, mint a legújabb terméke, a nagy fényerejű és stabilizát nagylátószögű zoom, amely már az ötödik a sorban. Az APS-C támogatása tehát egyre jelentősebb, nem véletlen mondják a szakemberek, hogy az APS-C a digitális tükörreflexesek között akkora szabvány lesz, mint annak idején a kisfilm volt. It’s a valid point, but there’s still benefits to having a brighter lens with a digital SLR. First, the smaller focal ratio and circular aperture of the 17-55mm allows it to deliver shorter depths of fields with more pleasing bokehs than other EF-S lenses, making it ideal for portrait or dramatic macro work – see our Gallery page. The lens is a high quality optic that is not quite up to L standard but takes close scrutiny to find the differences. Priced at the upper end of the spectrum for lenses that cannot be used on Canon’s professional camera models it would seem to have a limited place in the market. The price is added to if you want the optional hood though. That said, it is an ideal lens for anyone who does much low light photography. Lees Meer Translate to Nederlands

De Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM is absoluut een aanrader als vervanging voor het standaard objectief bij veel Canon reflexen met APS-C type beeldsensor. Het lichtsterke objectief met stabilisatiesysteem is wel bijna 800 euro duurder dan de EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 kitlens. Om de keuze nog moeilijker te maken is er concurrentie in eigen huis van de EF-S 17-85mm f/4.0-5.6 USM IS. Lees Meer

deze lens heeft een concurrent bij. sigma 17-50 f.2.8. goedkoper maar ook scherper, lichter en kleiner! heb deze canon lens verkocht i.v.m schokkerige zoom bij het filmen, sigma heeft er geen last van en loopt veel soepeler. Lees Meer

I expected this unit to be a bit more robust for the $1,000 price tag, but was disappointed that it felt cheap in my hands. After about a day's worth of usage I didn't feel that the unit had long-term durability so I returned it in exchange for the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 L USM. Nadat ik de Canon 400d had aangeschaft, moest er natuurlijk een lens bij. Ik wilde niet de standaard kit lens erbij, want ik hou toch wel erg van beeldkwaliteit. In eerste instantie de Canon EF-S 17-85 f/4.0-5.6 IS USM erbij gekocht (zie andere review). Omdat deze me qua scherpte toch niet beviel heb ik deze lens weer ingeruild en heb een EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 op mijn body gezet. Dit zijn mijn ervaringen met de 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM. Lees Meer

- Veel geld, mechanisch minder goed, cameraflitser geeft schaduw van de lens .

Although the lens is as much in dollars as L glass, the picture quality is really good. I have only taken a few shots with the lens so far so more to come as I will post again. I was hoping for more than what I received for [$] I must say, I may end up keeping it anyway, but L glass seems better and I must be spoiled by the quality of EF L glass. I do use this lens on a 7D and it is very fast to focus in any lighting conditions. Lees Meer Translate to Nederlands

- Good build quality, optics, IS. EXCELLENT USM focus mechanism. Very useful focal lenth and aperature.
- heavy, easy to get fingerprints on, pricey
