An 88-400mm equivalent, this is Canon's longest EF-S (digital only) zoom, and roughly the low-cost digital alternative to its 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L full-frame "white" image-stabilized zoom that's so hot with pros. At $280, street, this 55-250mm is by far Canon's most favorably priced IS tele zoom, with the only glass close to it a 70-300mm IS lens that streets for roughly $550. The EF-S 55-250IS is a relatively new lens designed to supplement the EF-S 18-55IS "Kit Lens" for the Digital Rebel line of DSLRs. Like the EF-S 18-55/3.5-5.6 IS, the 55-250/4-5.6 IS uses Canon's new low cost IS system. Nevertheless, Canon claims up to 4 stops of additional stability, which is as good as (or even better than) lenses with Canon's traditional IS control. The Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS is a tiny tele lens with a comparatively impressive performance potential. The resolution is very good across the range. Chromatic aberrations are almost a non-issue in field conditions. The level of distortions remains moderate. The most obvious flaw is, unsurprisingly, vignetting at large apertures. When writing the summary of this particular lens we can easily say that we get what we paid for. After spending less than 300 USD we can get a lens with a good resolution at the whole focal length range, with well controlled chromatic aberration and optical stabilization – maybe not being 4EV, but still relatively effective. This zoom lens was a part of my package purchase for my Canon XSi, so I couldn't choose which lens I wanted. This was my first SLR purchase so I really wouldn't have known which lenses to choose from in the first place. It is very easy to change out lenses on this camera. Just line up the white arrows and twist, easy as that. The zoom is pretty good, my Canon SX10 has a 20x zoom so it's hard to compete with that. The pictures taken with the zoom are impressive. Al vanaf mei 2009 in bezit, meer voor vakantie kiekjes en wat uitprobeersels, met name natuur en steden komt deze lens goed tot zijn recht. Voor groepsfoto's dichtbij is niet te doen! Als leek kan ik zeggen.. TOP!! Lees Meer

I picked this lens up a bit back when it was 199.99 on sale everywhere. It just seemed too good to pass up. Once I started to use it I found not only was the price point good, it still is at 250, but it's vastly underrated as a whole. The lens has solid construction, it's light weight, quick focus, and best of all... no CREEP! I've taken pictures of just everyday stuff, animals at the zoo, the kids playing in the snow, the moon on a particularly clear night, etc. Lees Meer Translate to Nederlands

I got it about a month ago, I have use it and I am very satisfy with it for what it is mainly designed for. I will obseve that is pretty noisy focusing and in low light conditions cuold be hard to focus, The IS works very good and AF too, mainly using exteriors. Lees Meer Translate to Nederlands
