Sigma's 70-300mm has an impressive list of features but it also calls forth the warning that if something sounds too good to be true, then maybe that's exactly what it is. Its 70-300mm focal-length range may be more than many users will really need in an everyday tele-zoom but there is nothing wrong with having a little bit of extra power - provided, that is, nothing more essential has to be sacrificed along the way. For someone who is on a tight budget, this lens, having been upgraded to DG (digitally optimised) status, seems to have closed the gap slightly on its more expensive sister. The usefulness of the lens is greatly added to with its ability to focus down to less than a metre and anyone wishing to photograph large insects such as butterflies or dragonflies will find it a most useful lenses for this discipline, being light enough to carry on a neck strap all day with the... I purchased this lens as part of a bundle when I bought my Sony A-65 SLT at the beginning of this year. I have nothing but good things to say about it. Once I bought my Nikon D5000 (with the 18-55mm) lens, I really wanted a zoom. I researched Sigma, Tamron as well as Nikon and because of the reviews on Abe's was convinced that the Sigma 70-300mm was the lens I wanted. Also, couldn't beat Abe's price (not even on [...])!! Für mich als Hobbyfotografen ist dieses Objektiv ein super Kauf! Es muss nicht immer teuer sein um gute Qualität zu haben. Bestätigung bekomme ich von diesem Objektiv von Sigma! Die Verarbeitung ist klasse und die Funktion und Qualität ist für einen Hobbyfotografen wirklich sensationell! This turned out to be a very nice lens for some one who is not an expert. It is much faster that all the write up I found on line and it is as good or bettern than my Nikon 70-300mm lens for my auto focuse filmed camera. the only thing is I should have gotten the VR version.
