   Nikon 1 series cameras are ideal for photographers who want more than a compact camera, but find an SLR too big or too complex. The Nikon 1 series exudes quality and reliability. It is a well thought out system, which offers many options. Color accuracy and resolution are good. The camera fits comfortably in the hand.    Although the Nikon 1 J1 has a lot of pluses, we feel the negatives (and the competition) make it difficult to recommend unreservedly. It’s a good, but not great, camera. We’ve used the $449 Olympus Pen Mini E-PM1 and Sony’s latest NEX cameras , such as the NEX-5N. Although they too have their flaws, overall they’re better than the J1.    Ik had eerst een Canon Ixus, ook een prima apparaat. Ik heb voor de Nikon gekozen vanwege de verwisselbare lenzen en omdat hij zo snel is. Voornamelijk omdat ik op vakantie toch wat betere foto's wilde maken. Lees Meer

   Takes great action shots of kids when shutter speed is set to 1/60 or higher--you can freeze the action/movement of your children running around and playing, something that was very important to me. You can set the camera on auto, or you can go in and be in control of the ISO/aperture/shutter speed, or a a combo of the three. Has manual control, too, for ISO/aperture/shutter and even the focus.    This is the DSLR type camera I like the best out of the ones I own: Canon EF Rebel, Samsung NX100 and Panasonic Lumix GF3. Fast microprocessor, widest angle zoom 10-30mm, does not shut off screen view when shooting at 30fps like NX100 (GF3 shoots burst much slower). With adapters, I can still use my Canon lenses (same with GF3 and NX100). The 4 general settings make it faster to switch from pics to video. It can take a small wireless remote control.
