    LaCie's Rugged Hard Disk gets its name from its rigid metal case and the thick orange rubber bumper that surrounds it. Although we wouldn't want to drop any hard disk, the Rugged feels more robust than many disks. The Rugged is also notable for being the only portable disk here with both FireWire 400 and 800 ports in addition to USB.     The good: Firewire 800 is surprisingly fast. I recently made a complete backup of my system using Carbon Copy Cloner so I could use all my files and programs while my MacBook Pro was in for repairs. (a coffee spill which Apple fixed for free, even out of warrantee). The drive worked flawlessly as I booted, at different times, from 3 Mac computers. The bad: the price The ugly: Orange?     Mijn man kreeg deze harde schijf twee jaar geleden bij zijn Kerstpakket. Omdat ik hem in 2 jaar tijd enorm veel en bijna dagelijks heb gebruikt, tijd voor een review.     I purchased the 500gig after owning the 160 gig LaCie drive. It is a little heavier but still very compact. I now have a bootable backup of my Macbook Pro drive along with extra storage capacity. I like the 800 firewire connection. Lees Meer Translate to Nederlands

    When traveling, reliability for a secondary and tertiary hard drive is essential. The LaCie portable 500 GB drive I purchased failed after just 2 months of light use. Of course, the maxim "Technology Fails" applies to any human-constructed thing (remind yourself of that when boarding a plane), but it appears that LaCie is a light-duty consumer toy which cannot be relied upon except for excess and unreliable data storage.     I really like this LaCie Rugged portable drive. It has a very nice, sturdy design. I work a lot with video editing, sometimes on the go and I use a lot of different hard drives. Storage space, portability, speed and reliability of the hard drive were the main criteria for me when I was buying this drive a couple of years ago. The drive is indeed fast, and it handles well the tasks, which are to some degree demanding. And so far it has been very reliable. Lees Meer Translate to Nederlands
