Finally, one thing we noticed while testing is a clicking sound upon booting, shutting down and switching inputs on the card. Don't be alarmed, this is just the sound of an internal switch that resets the circuits to prevent bleed over from capacitor voltage . For the price of the Asus Xonar Essence STX ($199.00), you expect a lot and frankly it exceeds expectations. It is a product that appeals to those demanding the highest level of fidelity. Well, I have updated my review to three stars. After trying two other "High quality" cards I have been disappointed with the sound quality (Hisssssssss), which was never an issue with the Xonar Essence STX. Now I have to decide if I want to try another ASUS of a similar model or just suck it up. The poor results for it's competitors gives this one a leg up. I love this soundcard and especially the headset. I'm a long time Sennheiser user (PC165's) and was really trying to decide between the PC350's or PC360's and decided to go with these. The soundcard was the bonus :) The quality of sound on my PC is amazing and the headphones deliver. They are super comfortable for long game sessions. I wore them already for 6 hours straight with no problem. The only minor issue I have is the microphone. Lees Meer Translate to Nederlands

I installed this card to have excellent sound on the minority of source material which actually sounds good. Frankly most source material is so heavily compressed, clipped peaks, signal processed to death, that card of this nature is a waste. On many recordings what happens in the studio is such a travesty that it will sound terrible on any home reproduction equipment. So if you buy it, don't expect miracles with lot of the recordings you listen to. Lees Meer Translate to Nederlands

Behind every pair of headphones should be a good sound chipset. That's the idea, and hopefully anyone who knows anything about good audio would adhere to that.
