Nikon's mid-level desktop scanner with ICE, GEM, ROC, and DEE, the Coolscan 5000 is capable of even the most demanding scan work. Lees Meer Translate to Nederlands
- Still modest footprint, reasonably fast scans (though slowed with ICE and other options), superb results when set correctly, USB 2.0 universality.
- Supplied software is still a bit awkward, ICE doesn't work perfectly, takes some time to find optimal setup.

The scanner works well, though results don't match what one would get with a DSLR. Problems include occasional shadow image artifacts at edges of strong light and dark contrast. Color fringing is also noticeable at times. Any warping of the slide will cause soft focusing near the edges. Lees Meer Translate to Nederlands

Needed device to convert many, many old 35mm slides to digital for viewing and emailing. This is definitely the best available, although pricey. Lees Meer Translate to Nederlands

great overall product. good image quality and fast. Only real con: it's amazing how it picks ANY scratch or dust, even minor. micro scratches that would have printed without any problems in an enlarger are shown here. Lees Meer Translate to Nederlands

I had a PrimeFIlm PC3600. It showed lots of dirt and marks on the slides and had poor color rendering. The Nikon Scanner is results in very clean scans. The s/w toolbox is really great for tuning ht ecolor and contrast balance of the scans. Surprisingly I found htat the color reatoration tool helped a lot with underwater shots. I have scanned both negative and positive over the course of a month and had good success. Lees Meer Translate to Nederlands

Smaller than I imagined. At 8-bit sampling, you'll get a 67mb file per frame. Double for 16-bit. Takes about a minute and a half for each frame with dust and scratch removal on. No regrets with this product. I wonder if I can charge people to scan in their old negatives? Lees Meer Translate to Nederlands

- Kinda noisy. I don't drink coffee but I've read reviews comparing it to a coffee grinder. Just drown it out with some mp3s. :)
