    I replaced a 2 year old Onkyo TX-8555 receiver after a lightning strike with a Yamaha RX-497. The Yamaha has excellent sound, more power, and much better base response. Even though the Yamaha is rated at 75 watts per channel and the Onkyo at 100, the Yamaha will blow the socks off the Onkyo. The Onkyo lacked bass. I am not a bass freak but I do like a little depth. Even with the bass cranked up all the way, it never gave me as much bass as my 30 year old Technics. Lees Meer Translate to Nederlands

    The "pure direct" switch that bypasses tone and balance controls is amazing. Truly unveils the music. I hear nuances in the music I never heard before. The top end is superb and powers my capacitive load Infinity 2000A speakers with electrostatic tweeters with ease and superb clarity. Noteworthy is a sub-woofer output and the absence of a fan. I do a lot of low volume listening and sit next to the receiver while I'm using my computer. Lees Meer Translate to Nederlands

    • This receiver is HIFI. From the tone control bypass switch to the discreet components amp/preamp this receiver creates sound like expensive separates.
    • The remote is a little crowded. It's easy to hit the mute when lowering the volume.

    This is and excellent receiver for anyone who wants superb sound quality with user friendly controls. I like the fact that it is simple to use and you do not need the remote to operate most controls such as bass, treble, balance and loudness. Love the loudness control.
